Alvaro Bautista finished in 5th position at sweltering MalaysianGP

Bautista finished in fifth position at sweltering Malaysian Grand Prix!

Bautista scored sixth top five position using braking ability!!

Round 15 (11/10/2013 - 13/10/2013 at the Sepang International Circuit)

The last stage of the Championship of the 2013 season will be held in three consecutive Asia pacific races.

The first of three started at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia where the MotoGP teams have pre-season tests. Each team has huge data therefore the battle is put spurts amongst teams. The brake temperature increases but long straights give resting points. The tight first corner after the main straight and the last corners after a back straight, require slowdown and demand a quick shift of the speed.

The 5,548 meters long Malaysian circuit, which attends the Championship since 1999,consists of five left corners and ten right corners. The riders enjoy a lot two long straights and a variety of corners from high speed to low speed. The wide course and many passing points demand hard braking. The resistance of the brake is very high amongst other Grands Prix. On the other side, the controllability of the brakes while entering fast corners, require total balance at this track.

In the MotoGP class, Alvaro Bautista (GO & FUN Honda Gresini/HONDA) finished in fourth position in FP1 on Friday, and finished in fifth position in FP2. In the Qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, Bautista scored the sixth position, the second row of the grid under difficult conditions by a sudden rain in the beginning of the session.

Bautista followed the top group in the beginning of the race, which started at 4:00 p.m. local time. He made a brilliant battle with equal lap times with both Honda and Yamaha factory riders. Then he started a thrilling battle with Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow. Bautista reached fifth position before Crutchlow at the last corner in the last lap, using NISSIN's brake ability especially while entering corners. He is now on sixth position in the Championship.

CRT rider Bryan Staring (GO&FUN Honda Gresini/FTR HONDA) finished in 18th position.

In the Moto2 class, the multiple collision occurred at the 14th corner in the first lap and red flagged the race. Fortunately, no one got heavy injured but the race was delayed and got reduced from 19 laps to 12 laps.

Luis Rossi (Tech3/TECH3) finished in 17th position.

Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman (Idemitsu HondaTeam Asia/MORIWAKI) finished in 22nd position.

Doni Tata Pradita (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 23rd position. Thitipong WAROKORN (Thai Honda PTT Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 24th position.

In the Moto3 class, Niccolo Antonelli (GO&FUN Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) got the third grid of the front row and run in the top group from the beginning of the race. He expected his best result of the year but he crashed in lap eight and retired.

Hyuga Watanabe (Team La Fonte Tascarasing/FTR Honda) finished in 21st position. Lorenzo Baldassarri (GO&FUN Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) finished in 23rd position. Alessandro Tonucci (Team La Fonte Tascarasing/FTR Honda) could not join the race due to the injury of right wrist at the Saturday's Qualifying session.

Alvaro Bautista(GO&FUN Honda Gresini/MotoGP) 5th:

“I made a good start and that allowed me to get away with the front group for a few laps but then I had a moment when I couldn't get the front brake lever fully on and I ran wide. It took me a couple of laps to get confident with the brakes again and I lost touch. Maybe in the battle with Valentino I overheated the brakes. It was a shame but I fought my way back to Crutchlow and then gritted my teeth to beat him in a fight to the end. Another important top five finish for me, the team, who have done a great job again, and the sponsors.”
