Round 6 (14/06/2013 - 16/06/2013 at the Catalunya Circuit)

The Catalunya Grand Prix presented at the Catalunya circuit in the suburb of Barcelona, the second biggest city in Spain. As Spain is a big Motorsport country, many Motorsport fans visited the Grand Prix. In addition, the circuit is quite close and easy accessed by car and public transports, therefore fans surge to the Montmelo circuit. The 4,727 meters Catalunya circuit, well known as a F1 track, consists of two long straights such as a main straight and back straight, high-speed corners and various middle-low speed corners. The 12 meters wide course has a lot of flexibility and allows the riders thrilling battles. Indeed, there are many battling points at the first corner after the long main straight, a braking point at the 10th corner of the back straight end and middle-low seed corners which allows overtaking, using the machine controllability. The circuit requires an over all demand for the brakes.

NISSIN riders used stopping power and controllability of NISSIN brakes and exerted a strong presence in Free Practices. Alvaro Bautista (GO & FUN Honda Gresini/HONDA) got the fourth position in the second row at the Qualifying session.

Having started from 10th position of the third row on the grid, Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA) made a successful start. Bradl improved his position lap by lap using an advantage of the brakes controllability and leaving other riders far behind. Bradl managed the fifth position after Honda/Yamaha factory riders in tough and hot conditions. Bradl finished Top 5 in a row.

CRT rider Bryan Staring (GO & FUN Honda Gresini/HONDA) finished in 14th position.

Alvaro Bausista (GO & FUN Honda Gresini/HONDA) crashed out at the back straight in the first lap.

In the Moto2 class, Yuki Takahashi (Idemitsu HondaTeam Asia/MORIWAKI) finished in 20th position using new parts and holds out a slim hope for the upcoming grand prix. Doni Tata Pradita (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/Suter) finished in 22nd position. Luis Rossi (Tech3/TECH3) crashed out in the first lap. Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda PTT Gresini Moto2/SUTER) crashed out in the last lap and retired.

In the Moto3 class, Alessandro Tonucci (Team La Fonte Tascarasing/FTR Honda) fought with a group of nine riders for the single position finish, but finished in 16th position. Lorenzo Baldassarri (GO&FUN Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) finished in 21st position. Hyuga Watanabe (Team La Fonte Tascarasing/FTR Honda) finished in 23rd position. Nicolo Antonelli (GO & FUN Gresini Moto3/FTR Honda) started from ninth position but crashed out in lap four, and retired.

Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/MotoGP) 5th:
“Honestly we thought it would have been tough to get such a good result so we are very happy about this P5. It has been a very tough race in these hot conditions and I had to be very clever to save the tyres in every single lap. Some riders crashed in the first part of the race so I decided to be less aggressive in the beginning. I am quite satisfied about my performance because I was capable to adapt to these difficult conditions. This strategy gave me a lot of confidence and a big gap to the guys behind me. Tomorrow we will back on track for a half-day test here and then 2-day testing in Aragon.”
