Round 5 (30/05/2013 - 02/06-2013 at the Mugello Circuit)

The Italian Grand Prix in the great country of Motor sports is one of the most popular races in the Grand Prix calendar. The Mugello circuit, which many avid race fans attended, is a 5,245 metre long track. The riders enjoy and love this dynamic and up and down course, which is going through the hills of Tuscany.
You can go top speed on the 1,141 metre long main straight and the straight end is one of the battle points with hard braking. However this doesn't mean the brakes are heavily used despite of the hard fought battles on the track. There is a rest point for brakes at the straight and teams require a proper setting to stabilize brakes temperature in order to increase carbon brakes performance.
Since the 1,000 cc engine era, there are many changes for electronic control, also for brakes compared to the 990 cc/800 cc era. NISSIN used to provide high mass spec which promoted heat loss in the past.

Having started from the fifth position from the second row, Stefan Bradl loses several places down to seventh poison. But Bradl tried to get an opportunity to increase his position using NISSIN brakes controllability and overtook Ducati's Factory riders Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso till the end of the race. Bradl took hold of this tail-to-tail race by a 0.218 second gap. Bradl finished in fourth position at his team home soil.

Alvaro Bausista (GO & FUN Honda Gresini/HONDA) crashed out at the third corner in the opening lap.

CRT rider Bryan Staring (GO & FUN Honda Gresini/HONDA) finished in 18th position.

In the Moto2 class, Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda PTT Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 16th position. Yuki Takahashi (Idemitsu HondaTeam Asia/MORIWAKI) finished in 24th position. Luis Rossi (Tech3/TECH3) finished in 26th position. Doni Tata Pradita (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/Suter) crashed out in the first lap.

In the Moto3 class, Nicolo Antonelli (GO & FUN Gresini Moto3/FTR Honda) battled bravely. Antonelli followed the top group and finished in seventh position in front of Italian fans. His teammate Lorenzo Baldassarri (GO&FUN Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) finished in 23rd position. Hyuga Watanabe (Team La Fonte Tascarasing/FTR Honda) finished in 27th position. Alessandro Tonucchi (Team La Fonte Tascarasing/FTR Honda) crashed out in the third lap.

Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/MotoGP) 4th
“Repeating the 4th place of last year is a very special feeling for me and the Team. Actually I am happy about the job we have done throughout the whole weekend but the race was a bit tough. Honestly I did not take a brilliant start losing some positions and after that I had to overtake the Ducati guys. It was not easy to relegate them behind me and I knew that Dovi would have tried to pass me in the last lap. He is a strong rider and I really enjoyed the battle with him. I must thank the whole Team and our partners and fans for their excellent job and support because I know this a special race for Lucio and his collaborators.”

Niccolo Antonelli (GO&FUN Honda Gresini Moto3/Moto3) 7th
“First of all I was happy just to finish the race because this was the first target. I tried to stay with the leading group but I was losing too much to them down the straight and it was impossible, so I just did my best to make sure of seventh place, which is still a good result for us. Unfortunately we have seen just how much we are conceding to our rivals here in terms of engine performance but we know we have a good chassis so we have to look to the future and hope that Honda can give us some help soon.”
