The 2012 MotoGP season finished this weekend at the GP of Valencia and the NISSIN riders performed very well!
Alvaro Bautista finished in 4th position! Michele Pirro finished in 5th position!!

MotoGP Round:18(09/11/12 - 11/11/12, at Ricardo Tormo Circuit)

The final race of the 2012 season was held at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in the district of Valencia City. The 4,005 meters long track is the third shortest course amongst the 18 races tracks in the MotoGP calendar. The grandstands surrounding the track offer a stadium character. The track consists of 5 right corners and 9 left corners, both main straight and back straight are not so long compared to other tracks. At this track there are no resting points of the brakes. There are a lot of corers where the riders need to shift from second to first gear and this is very demanding for the brakes. Despite of the low track temperatures due to autumn, the brake disks temperatures increased steadily because of the hard conditions for the brakes. Therefore, NISSIN riders used the high-mass disk.

Rain was dominating the race weekend. The Free Practices on Friday and Saturday were held under wet conditions. Therefore, it was a challenge for the riders to use the steel brake brake disks in the sessions.
The Qualifying Session held under dry conditions. But the Sunday's races were held under rainy conditions. The 30 laps MotoGP race started under difficult conditions, where it was not clear if the line would dry out or not. The race direction declared a wet race. The start of the race was difficult for riders who were prepared for wet racing conditions and started with slick tyres as well as for the riders who where on wet tyros and had to switch to their bikes at the pit box during the race, which had slick tyres on.

NISSIN rider, Alvaro Bautista (San Carlo Honda Gresini/HONDA) started the warm-up lap on rain tyros, however he decided to change at the pits and swapped to slick-equipped spare bike.
Bautista made a stable laps using silk tyres which were the right choice for a track surface which was drying out and the characteristic of the carbon brakes. Bautista finished in 4th position and concluded his season in the 5th position in the World Championship. Bautista brought in the best result for NISSIN in the MotoGP era (since 2002) which bet the  6th position of Kenny Roberts in 2006 and Marco Simoncelli's 6th position in 2011.

CRT rider, Michele Pirro (San Calro Honda Gresini FTR-Honda) finished in 5th position. This is the best result amongst the CRT riders during the 2012 season.
Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA) followed the top group and came up to the 3rd position in lap 3. But he crashed shortly after that retired.
Katsuyuki Nakasuga (Yamaha Factory Racing) has replaced Ben Spies and he made a brilliant 2nd place on the podium. This is a memorable 2nd place for a Japanese rider is since 2006 (Shinya Nakano at the Assen TT).

In the Moto2 class, Gino Rea (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/SUTER) battled for the podium but crashed in lap 16. Rea came back to the race and caught up and finished in 12th position.
Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3) was also batteling for the podium in the begging of the race. However, Simeon crashed and finished in 27th position. Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 24th position.

In the Moto3 class, Niccolo Antonelli(San Carlo Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) improved his position lap by lap and finished in 13th position, which earned him 3 points. Kenta Fujii (Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA) finished in 23th position.  Miroslav Popov (Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) has replaced Riccardo Moretti retired in lap 10. Danny Webb(Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) came back to the pit in lap 19 and retired.

Alvaro Bautista-San Carlo Honda Gresini-4th

“That was definitely the most difficult race of the season. On the warm-up lap I decided to come in and swap the bike for my other bike with slick tyres because I could see the track was drying. I tried to manage the situation as best I could out there and focus on our objective of making sure of fifth in the championship, but I'm not happy with the performance because again I had no feeling from the front. But anyway the season is over now and I am happy with where we have finished and with the progress we have made over the course of the season. Thanks to the team, Fausto Gresini and all the sponsors who have supported us. Now we start looking towards 2013 and I am happy to be with the same team and all the guys who have worked so hard this year. We have a good base to work from and improve next year.”

Michele Pirro-San Carlo Honda Gresini-5th

“What a fantastic day! To finish fifth and as the top CRT, with the best CRT result of the season, is wonderful. It wasn't an easy race, but we tried to push our best and take a few risks. Like last year when I won the Moto2 race I could feel Marco's hand on my shoulder, giving me a push, and I feel this is a fitting way to say good bye to Team Gresini. The past two years with them have been very important for my career so I want to thank each and every member. The memories of our victory together here at Valencia last year and this fantastic result today will stay with us forever and it has been wonderful to write a small chapter in the history of this great championship. Thanks everybody.”
