MotoGP Round-17 AustraliaGP

NISSIN riders fought an exciting battle on the Phillip Island!

Alvaro Bautista finished in 5th position! Stefan Bradl finished in 6th position!

MotoGP Round:17(26/10/12 - 28/10/12, at the Phillip Island Circuit)

The Grand Prix of Australia was held at the Phillip Island circuit. Spring is arriving in the southern hemisphere, but nevertheless the weather on Phillip was typical, especially because the circuit lays on a high altitude. Therefore temperatures at the circuit were more like winter winds which are coming from the sea.
The 4,448 meters long track consists of high speed corners such as T1, T3 and T12. The speed average on this track is the highest on this track among all of the other race tracks in the MotoGP calender.
The entire track doesn't have a particularly high demand for heavy breaking (There are two low speed hairpin corners). The brakes have to adapt to the low temperatures. Therefore NISSIN uses a disk cover, in order to keep the temperature of the front brake carbon disk up, which means that track demands the low mass disk.

Free Practices on Friday and Saturday were held under windy, rainy and overall difficult weather conditions. However, all the races on Sunday stared in wet conditions.
Both NISSIN riders, Alvaro Bautista (San Carlo Honda Gresini/HONDA) and Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA) made a good starts and fought a thrilling battle throughout the 27 lap MotoGP race. Riders chased each other backwards and forwards and were fighting an aggressive battle using the controllability of the NISSIN brakes. Bautista finished in 5th position. Bradl finished in 6th position. CRT rider, Michele Pirro (San Calro Honda Gresini FTR-Honda) finished in 14th position, which was his sixth times in the Top15.

In the Moto2 class, Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3) fought a thrilling battle from the beginning of the race and finished in 14th position, which earned him 2 more points. Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 19th position. Gino Rea(Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 21st position. Marc Marquez has decided to the Moto2 World Championship 2012 for himself.

In the Moto3 class, Kenta Fujii (Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA) finished in 22th position. Riccardo Moretti (Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) entered to the garage in lap 2 and had to retire.
Niccolo Antonelli(San Carlo Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) was unable to participate in the race due to his injury, which occurred in the FP3 on Saturday. Danny Webb(Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) had an engine problem at the FP on Friday morning. Webb had to cancel his practice because spare parts were not on time after 3 races in a row.

Alvaro Bautista-San Carlo Honda Gresini-5th

“We have achieved our objective here but I have to recognise that if it wasn't for the crash from Dani Pedrosa I would have been sixth. I am disappointed for him because he has produced some extraordinary races recently but today he lost the championship on the second lap. This morning in the warm-up we could see that Crutchlow had a better pace than us so when I saw Pedrosa crash I just tried my best to stick in the group behind Lorenzo in the hope we could fight for the podium but we were lacking straight line speed. All the time I lost down the straight I had to make up for the rest of the lap but it was a fun battle with Dovizioso and Bradl, we passed each other many times and the race went quickly for me. I made one last attempt at the end but again Dovizioso got me down the straight and then did a good job to close every door. Anyway it's a positive result so thanks to all the team and now let's hope we can seal fifth in the championship at Valencia. ”

Stefan Bradl-LCR Honda MotoGP-6th

“Off course we are all happy because we did not expect such a close fight for the 4th place today after the difficult first day of practices we had here. It’s a shame that we lost the 4th place because I was on hard tyre today and had a small advantage on my competitors so I thought I could take it. But the other guys had other advantages on me so we were plus or minus on the same level but in the last lap I was stopped by Bautista and Dovi passed me. I am not the one who usually lost the battle but I am quite happy anyway because we showed our pace once again and want to thank the Team for their excellent job this weekend”.
