MotoGP Round-16 MalaysiaGP

Alvaro Bautista finished in 6th position in rainy race!

Gino Rea managed to finish in the 3rd position which is his first podium in the Moto2 class!

MotoGP Round:16(19/10/12 - 21/10/12, at the Sepang International Circuit)

The Grand Prix of Malaysia was held at the Sepang International circuit only a few days after the exciting race in Japan, on the Motegi circuit.
The MotoGP in Malaysia got more popular over the last years and the number of spectators who are visiting the track, which is located very close to the airport increases year by year. The Sepang circuit is located close to the tropical city of Kuala Lumpur. The race track consists of various corners and two long straights, most of the rider loves to ride there. Regarding the brakes, the controllability is essential in the high-middle-low corners. The brake residence is high at the tight corners such as the hairpin corner and T1 corner after the long, straights, strait in first or second gear. Compared to other tracks, this track is hard on the brakes. On the Malayasian surface there are several resting points for the breaks, between the two long straights and the straight between corner and corner.

Considering the hardness of the brakes on this track (The Malaysian temperature affect the brakes directly) , NISSIN prepared a high-mass product for this race.

The MotoGP race started at 16:00 p.m. local time under wet conditions. To use the carbon disks brakes for the MotoGP is well known fot effective under dry conditions.
Under the wet conditions, it is necessary to use the iron disks. Alvaro Bautista (San Carlo Honda Gresini/HONDA) managed to control his machine and get through the difficult conditions  on the track, where the visibility was very poor because ot the tropical downpour. The rain got stronger and many riders crashed. Halfway through lap 14 the Race Direction stopped the race, counting the results from lap 13. But because two-thirds have not been completed, the Race Direction considered a restart, until it was clear that the conditions were too dangerous.

Bautista finished in 6th position and gained 10 more points. Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA) had been going well under the rainy conditions. However, Bradl crashed in lap 12 and retired. CRT rider, Michele Pirro (San Calro Honda Gresini FTR-Honda) finished in 12th position.

In the Moto2 class, a delay of the race was necessary due to heavy rain. Gino Rea (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/SUTER) made a good start and followed the top group. Rea took the lead at the last corner in lap 16. He was leading the lap 17 as well, however, the red flag has paused the race. As the last rider attacked his lap 16 during the red flag, the race direction took the results of the lap 15. Therefore, Rea finished in the 3rd position. It was his first and a memorable podium in the World Championship.

In the Moto3 class, Niccolo Antonelli(San Carlo Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) finished in 15th position and gained championship points for the fourth times in a row. Kenta Fujii (Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA) finished in 27th position. Danny Webb(Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) came back to the pit in lap 9 and retired. Riccardo Moretti (Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) retired in lap 2. In addition, Sandro Cortese (Red Bull KTM Ajo) has decided the Moto3 World Championship 2012 for himself. Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 22nd position. Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3) retired due to his crash at the begging of the race.

Alvaro Bautista-San Carlo Honda Gresini-6th

“Racing in these conditions is always a lottery. It was raining at the start, but not too much and I was able to ride well, with confidence in the bike. The only problem was under braking and I had trouble trying to control the bike over the bumps. I was close to crashing but I tried to adapt as best I could. Towards the end, the track was like a river and I was aquaplaning down the straight. It was the right call to stop the race. I am happy because we improved our feeling with the bike in the wet but we still need to work on our chatter problems.”

Gino Rea-Federal Oil Gresini Moto2-3rd

“What can I say? It's an amazing feeling. We've struggled all year to get the bike working how I want it but in the wet I'm able to ride around the problems and finally after the crash at Le Mans earlier in the year we got another opportunity to fight for the win today. I almost went down a few times but made it to the end and it just feels fantastic. I want to thank all the guys in the team, especially my crew chief Fausto, all the sponsors and above all my family.”
