MotoGP Round-14 AragonGP

Alvaro Bautista finished in Top6!

Niccolo Antonelli finished in Top10 in the Moto3 class!

MotoGP Round:14 (28/09/12 - 30/09/12, at Motorland Aragon)

The Grand Prix of Aragon marks its third year on the MotoGP calendar since 2010. The track is the  latest track on the MotoGP calendar.
The track is located in mid-continent of Spain and distance from 250 km from Barcelona and Valencia. The Motorland Aragon is a comprehensive facility for road race, karting, motocross and motored.

The 5,078 meter long track consists of 7 right corners and 10 left corners. The first half of the track consists of an uphill layout,   the last half offers a downhill layout.  Because of that this track requires hard breaking and is the second hardest circuit in regard of breaking after the Twing Ring in Motegi. Especially, the feeling of the brakes  is essential at the last half of the track as it consists of several of corners. The riders need a lot of braking power and that remains throughout the whole race time. For teams to make a proper setting, it is important to pay attention to the temperature of the breaks, as well as the ambient temperature.

The Free Practices on Friday and Saturday were held under wet conditions, however the Qualifying Practice and the race on Sunday were held under dry conditions. NISSIN rider Alvaro Bautista finished in 6th position in the 23-lap MotoGP race. Additionally, it is important to consider the temperature in Aragon which is less elevated.

Bautista had an extremely harsh battle in the Qualifying Session and had to start from the 12th spot on the grid. However, Bautista had a brilliant start and managed to reach the 7th position in   and the 6th position in lap 5. Bautista made constant lap times and finished in 6th position using  the stability and the high performance of the NISSIN brakes.

Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA) picked up his pace at the beginning of the race and was in the fight for podium in lap 4. But he crashed in turn 3 and retired.

CRT rider Michele Pirro (San Carlo Honda Gresini/FTR) finished in 15th position and gained 1 point.

In the Moto2 class, Gino Rea(Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 22nd position. Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 25th position. Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3) started from the 15th spot on the grid but crashed in lap 4 and retired.

In the Moto3 class, the group of 10 riders  led a bruising offense and defense. Niccolo Antonelli (San Carlo Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) also fought in this group and finished in 10th position. Danny Webb?Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) finished in 25th position. Kenta Fujii (Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA) finished in 26th position. Miroslav Popov (Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) has replaced Riccardo Moretti here again. Popov retired due to a machinery trouble in the lap 16.

Alvaro Bautista-San Carlo Honda Gresini-6th

“Considering how practice went sixth place is a positive result. Obviously I'm not particularly happy with it because I think we can do much better and be fighting for results like Misano but that was always going to be difficult today. I tried my best to chase the second group but it wasn't possible and I was having to take too many risks so in the end I decided to play it safe and bring the bike home for as many points as possible. It is difficult to race like that and we need to find a solution to our front-end issues if I am going to be able to push this bike week in week out. We have salvaged a difficult situation today but we need to keep working and, knowing this team as I do, I'm sure that's what they'll do.”

Niccolo Antonelli-San Carlo Gresini Moto3-10th

“Today the chassis set-up of the bike was perfect and the feeling I had allowed me to stick with the front group in the early stages. We are perhaps a little down on acceleration so if we can work on this aspect we can be even more competitive because I think I showed today I can race with these guys.”
