MotoGP Round-13 San MarinoGP

Alvaro Bautista finished in 3rd position, his first MotoGP podium!!

Stefan Bradl finished in 6th! Both NISSIN riders made a good show!

 MotoGP Round:13(14/09/12 - 16/09/12, at Misano Circuit)
Round 13, the Grand Prix of San Marino has taken place at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. The circuit is located next to the town of Misano Adriatico, it offers a lot of leisure activities and is located close to the Republic of San Marino.
The Misano Circuit got back into the MotoGP calendar after a 14 year break in 2007. The race was held every year ever since then. The 4,226 meters long track consists of 10 right corners and 6 left corners. The circuits corners are considered to be of low to medium speed. The average speed is 163.345km/h which is not high compared to other tracks. However, the course demands a high performance of the brakes. The controllability of the brake lever and brake stability are important, as there are few overtaking points on the tight course.

The brake temperature easily raises because of the only few points to rest. The circuit always demands a high controllability of the brakes and have a very important role  compared to the Mugello circuit in Italy which consists of long straights and has many rest points for the brake. The brake temperature is influenced by the track's layout.

The race weekend of the San Marino Grand Prix was affected by unstable weather conditions. The Free Practices on Friday and Saturday were held under wet conditions but dried out during the Qualifying Practice. The NISSIN riders achieved good results under dry conditions on Sunday's race, using NISSIN's high brake performance.

In the MotoGP class, Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA) started from 4th position in second row on the grid. Alvaro Bautista (San Calro Honda Gresini/HONDA) started from 5th position. Both riders had a  brilliant start and followed the top group. Bradl managed to get up to the third position and chased Valentino Rossi, in order to take the opportunity to get his very first podium in the MotoGP class. Bradl finished in 6th position.

Bautista caught up to the front group fighting in 3rd position and piled pressure on riders behind them. Towards the finish line Bautista raced side by side with other riders of the top group using the NISSIN's brake controllability which was a big advantage in the premier class. He achieved the first NISSIN podium of this season at the home grand prix of the San Carlo Honda Gresini Team. CRT rider, Michele Pirro (San Carlo Honda Gresini/FTR) finished in 10th position.

In the Moto2 class, Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in the 8th position in the Qualifying Practice and expected a high performance in the race. But Wilairot crashed and hits his left foot very hard during the warm up session. Also Gino Rea(Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/SUTER) had to retire in the third lap of the raced due to a machinery trouble. The race was interrupted by red flags due to the oil spilling on the track, which was cause by a broken the engine of Rea. The race restarted with 14th laps to go. Wilairot finished in 19th position. Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3) crashed in the lap 7. Max Neukirchner (Kiefer Racing/KALEX) was unable to join the race due to his injury of the previous race.

In the Moto3 class, Niccolo Antonelli(San Carlo Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) scored his best qualifying result so far, and started from the 3rd place on the starting grid. Antonelli fought begging of the race and finished in 8th position. Danny Webb(Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) was back on the race yack, after his absence in the previous race. Webb started from the 26th position but he got involved in the multi crash in the first lap and had to retire. Miroslav Popov (Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) has replaced Riccardo Moretti who couldn't race due to his injury. Popov finished in 19th position. Kenta Fujii (Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA) finished in 22nd position.

Alvaro Bautista-San Carlo Gresini-3rd

“It is always nice to finish on the podium but especially for me today with this being my first in MotoGP. Above all this is a very special weekend for me and the team because our memories of Marco are so strong coming here to the circuit named in his honour. After a few tough races we have worked well here and managed to fight for the podium at last. I am so happy for the team and for Marco because I am sure that wherever he is right now he was pushing us along. I could feel his hand on my shoulder today and I realised at the end that my name had come loose from my leathers so you could say it was Marco that was with us today. It has been an extraordinary day and I almost crashed at the start ? I picked myself up on my right elbow. I am happy for everybody who has believed in me and I want to dedicate this very special podium also to them.”

Stefan Bradl-LCR Honda MotoGP-6th

“First of all it was a strange beginning of the race with two starts… after that, since the beginning, I was not fully confident with my front tyre and throughout the race it became worse and worse. Then in the last laps I even felt something wrong in the front but do not know what happened exactly and must check the data with the technicians. Once I arrived at the garage we noticed that I had very low front tyre pressure and we are going to investigate later. In those conditions I was not capable to stop the bike on braking so I was losing the position. It’s very frustarting because we were in a good shape and I could gain my first MotoGP podium but I have to take the positive aspect of the weekend. We are capable to stay up in the pack and we will try our best in Aragon. I want to thank the whole Team because this race was very busy for them and once again they made an excellent job.”
