MotoGP Round-11 IndianapolisGP

Alvaro Bautista finished in 5th position at Indianapolis!!
Stefan Bradl finished in 6th position at his first ride in the MotoGP class in Indianapolis!

MotoGP Round:11 (17/07/12 - 19/08/12, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Circuit)

After a two weeks summer vacation, the MotoGP paddock was come back in action at the holy grounds of American Motorsport Speedway, where the eleventh round of the season was held. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit has been holding the race since 2008, so this year the famous track is hosting the MotoGP race for the fifth time. The track consists of 16 corners (10 right corners and 6 left corners) which are taken to middle-low speed. The average speed is, is compared to the other tracks the lowest in the MotoGP calendar. The main straight is 872 meters long, and the max top speed is 323km/h because of the tracks continous tight corners in the last section. The first corner is a gentle corner but the track consist of tight corners from T2 to T4.
Therefore there are only few hard breaking points and the burden for the breaks is low. The level of breaking difficulties on this track is, due to its few up's and down's quite low. So the key points of this track are the stable breaking and its controllability.

Both practices, Friday's FP2 as well as Saturday's qualifying practice had good weather. Sunday's race started in dry conditions for all three classes.

In the MotoGP class, both NISSIN riders Alvaro Bautista (San Carlo Honda Gresini/HONDA) and Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA)put up a good fight. Bradl started from the fifth position on the grid and managed to fight his way into the top group. Alvaro Bautista started from the eighth position and had a good start. In the middle of the race, Bautista and Bradl fought for the third position. But the gap between them and the front group grew from lap to lap. After 28th laps, Bautista finished in fifth position and Bradl managed to finish in sixth position. Both riders head off to the Grand Prix of the Czech Republic with dazzling results. CRT rider Michele Pirro (San Calro Honda Gresini FTR-Honda) had to come to the pit garage due to a machine trouble and had to retire just after the start in the second lap.

In the Moto2 class, Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3) had a good start from the 18th position of the starting grid. Simeon had a great battle, however he crashed in the 18th lap. Another NISSIN rider, Gino Rea(Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 20th position. Max Neukirchner (Kiefer Racing/KALEX) finished in 21st position. Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 24th position.

In the Moto3 class, Kenta Fujii (Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA)finished in 18th position eventhough many of the riders crashed. Riccardo Moretti(Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA)finished in 20th position. Niccolo Antonelli(San Carlo Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) was caught in a multi crashed in the first lap and had to retire. Danny Webb(Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) was unable to join the race due to his injury of the crash in Saturday's qualifying practice.

Alvaro Bautista-San Carlo Gresini-5th

"This result is fruit of all the hard work the guys in the team have done this weekend to get the feeling back that we had before Mugello. I knew I could have a good race today and after making some positions up at the start I was able to run with the front guys for most of the race. At the end Dovizioso and Stoner were two or three tenths quicker than me so I couldn't follow them but I think this is a positive result for us, especially after a couple of difficult races for us. I hope this means we are on the right lines for the upcoming races but I want to thank everybody in the team for helping me to get my confidence and feel for the bike back, as well as all the sponsors and everybody who has kept faith in us."

Stefan Bradl-LCR Honda MotoGP-6th

“Honestly it was not one of our best races so far and I am a bit disappointed because we looked stronger than this. Sixth position is not a disaster but I was expecting a bit more considering the pace of our qualification yesterday. Unfortunately I was not able to push in the first gear corners and I was losing quite a lot in the acceleration areas. I tried to pull it back in section 2 and section 3 which was possible in the begging but not over the all race distance. At the end I had to accept that today we were not so strong but we are doing well and we still hold the sixth position in the world standing”.
