MotoGP Round.7: The Grand Prix of Netherlands(28/06/12 - 30/06/12 , Assen Circuit)

The Grand Prix of Netherlands has taken place at "The Cathedral" at Assen. The circuit is the only venue that has hosted a Grand Prix event every year since the motorcycle World Championship Grand Prix series started back in 1949. Even the original Assen track was first used for the Dutch TT (Tourist Trophy) in 1925.
The weekend of various races which takes place at this track is called "TT week" and is familiar with race fans and has the tradition to have races only on Saturday. The course layout has been modified in the year 2006.

The 4,542 meter long track (Modified in 2006) consists of 12 right corners and 6 left corners. Steady turning at the Assen circuit,  at high speed, it is one of the fastest average speeds of any circuit in the series (the average speed in 2011 was 172.630km/h). Furthermore, Assen is famous for it's unstable "Dutch Weather" and the influence it has on the races. Those circumstances an unpredictable factor for the breaks. The number of corners means a frequent breaking on the track and the low temperature requires high stability of the breaks. For teams who make a proper setting of the controllability of their breaks, it is the key point to win this race.

The 20 lap MotoGP race was held at 14:00 p.m. local time. Alvaro Bautista (San Carlo Honda Gresini/HONDA)started from the 8th position on the grid and aimed to finish like in his career's best position, which was the fourth position at the Grand Prix of Great Britain. However, Bautista crashed at the first corner in lap one.

Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA) started from his best qualifying position ever, which was position four. However Bradl failed to finish the race for the first time in his rookie MotoGP season. Bradl was in fourth position on the second lap in turn 10, when he crashed out. Michele Pirro finished a career best ninth position and was second in the CRT category.

In the Moto2 class, Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3) made a successful start from the 24th position into the top group and finished in 13th position. Gino Rea(Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/SUTER) finished in 22nd position. Max Neukirchner (Kiefer Racing/KALEX) who battled with the top group crashed in the last lap. Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/SUTER) crashed on his first lap but was back on the track, however later he crashed later on again and retired.

In the Moto3 class, Niccolo Antonelli(San Carlo Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) started from 3rd position of the front low and battled among top group riders but he crashed in lap 15 and retired. Danny Webb (Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA)  crashed  in lap 16 and retired. Marcel Schrotter (Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) retired in lap 21. Kenta Fujii(Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA) finished in 27th position.

Michele Pirro−San Carlo Honda Gresini−9th(MotoGP)

“It’s a good result, even if I am a little unhappy that lately we are always so close to being the best CRT. The guys are working so hard all the time and the bike improved between yesterday and today. I had the possibility to fight for the top CRT spot and we would have been even more competitive with just a few details adjusted. That’s why I’m convinced that, sooner or later, we will be successful. I thank the team from the bottom of my heart, because whilst I ride the bike, they are making the real difference. I am very happy with them.”

Xavier Simeon−Tech 3 Racing−13th(Moto2)

“I am really happy to have achieved the objective of getting in the points because I was disappointed in qualifying to be so far back on the grid. I knew I had a much better pace than 24th and immediately in the race I had a good feel ing with the Mistral 610 machine. Two riders crashed in front of me on the first lap and that helped put me in the points and after that it was a very tough race. I just pushed at 100% on every lap and I am really pleased to equal my best result of the season. It's a pity that Nakagami pushed me off track in the last lap because I'd have been really happy to be 12th and get my best result of 2012 like Bradley managed. The Tech 3 Racing Team did a fantastic job and I am confident as my fitness gets back to 100% that I will be battling for the top 10 in the next races.”
