MotoGP Round.4: Grand Prix of France (18/05/12 - 20/05/12, Le Mans Circuit)

The Le Mans Circuit is a typical Stop & Go circuit. Le Mans is commonly known as the Grand Prix of the 24 hours enduring race. The Circuit de la Sarthe, a circuit containing a mix of closed public roads, is 13km long, attends the endurance car races. In contrast, Motorcycle races are attended at the Bugatti track which is a permanent track. This track has a length of 4185m, the main straight is 674m long, it contains 9 right corners and 5 left corners. The circuits corners are considered to be low or medium speed. The average speed is 160km/h and its not so high compared with other tracks. This kind of short straight and small corners layout, demands riders to overtake and break hard, so the breaks also requires stable performance under the tough conditions.

The French Grand Prix is especially true in very fickle weather therefore riders requires a careful strategy for wet condition.
Meteorologists predicted the race weekend to be rainy, however Friday's sessions was seven held under on dry conditions. The Moto GP qualifying session has started in the under wet conditions but, dried out during the middle of the session. The race on Sunday started in very wet conditions.

The MotoGP race started at 14:00 p.m local time. The race has got under the very wet conditions, but the rain has stopped by the end of the race.
MotoGP rookie Stefan Bradl(LCR Honda MotoGP/HONDA)had a successful start and managed to get up to position seven on the first lap, after starting from 13th position.
Bradl followed the Honda factory rider Dani Pedrosa and came up to 6th position and finished at a heroic 5th position, his best result in the MotoGP class. Bradl showed once again his brilliant talent in on his MotoGP debut year. Alvaro Bautista handled the breaks control and his machine under the tough condition and finished 10th. CRT rider Michele Pirro (San Calro Honda Gresini FTR-Honda) finished 14th and scored points for 2 continuous races.

In the Moto2 class, NISSIN rider Gino Rea(Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/MORIWAKI) made an impressive rocket start from the 23rd position on the grid and fought at top group but crashed on lap 8. Other NISSIN riders, Max Neukirchner (Kiefer Racing/KALEX)finished in 8th position by riding a consistent rac under the tricky full wet condition. Nissin rider Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/MORIWAKI) finished 9th. Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3) was unable to appear the race due to his injury of the crash at the qualifying session.

In the Moto3 class, Niccolo Antonelli(San Carlo Gresini Moto3/FTR HONDA) made a steady run under the difficult condition which had many crashes and finished the 4th position. Marcel Schrotter (Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) survived and finished on the 12th position. Kenta Fujii(Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA) crashed on lap 2. Danny Webb(Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA) crashed on lap 7 but was back on the track, however later on he retired.

Stefan Bradl-LCR Honda-5th

“This is a fantastic feeling! I am very happy and the whole Team is happy too: this makes me very proud. Honestly I think nobody was expecting such a good result in my fourth  race in this class. In general the weekend was tough because we were struggling a lot in finding the right set up for the dry sessions and I also had a big crash in yesterday’s qualifying. Finally it rained before the race and I knew we had a good package on the wet. Already on my sighting lap I could feel that was my WOW bike and my first lap was amazing as after the first split I was holding the 7th position. After that I rode behind Pedrosa for a long time who has got a very precise riding style. I learnt very much from him. When it started to dry up I could ride with more confidence adapting to the situation even if Hayden was trying to catch me.”
