MotoGP Round-1 QatarGP

BAUTISTA Alvaro.jpg
The opening round of the 2012 season started IN Qatar. The Losail International Circuit which is located outside the desert, just out of Qatar's capital (about 30 min by car from the city center). This circuit has been holding the night race since 2008. Losail is one of the longest circuits, the main straight is 1068m long, the average speed is 160km/h. The riders need a special braking technic and the brake requires a controllable performance under the desert lights on the slippery track surface. But the best location for NISSIN which has established a reputation as the controllability to show its high performance brake.
The Grand Prix of Qatar held free practice sessions and a qualifying session during the 3 days, the MotoGP race started at 22:00 p.m local time under floodlights.
The NISSIN rider Stefan Bradl made a strong run to position six by lap 2. It was only in the final lap of the race that the rookie rider got passed by the much more experienced rider Alvaro Bautista. His eighth place was a strong finish for his premier class debut and positively Bradl will achieve the expected results.

Alvaro Bautista finished seventh in front of Bradl, starting from the eleventh position on the grid. This Honda newcomer already showed his high potential using NISSIN brakes.
Michele Pirro (San Carlo Honda Gresini/FTR) got back to the pits and returned to the track, but he entered the pits again and retired.
In the Moto2 class, Max Neukirchner strived the second group from sixth position on the grid in the middle of the race. Neukirchner entered the pit and returned to the track and finished thirteenth position. Other NISSIN riders such as, Xavier Simeon(Tech 3 Racing/TECH3)finished seventeenth, Ratthapark Wilairot(Thai Honda Gresini Moto2/MORIWAKI)twenty-first, Gino Rea(Federal Oil Gresini Moto2/MORIWAKI)finished twenty-sixth.
The first ever Moto 3, 250cc four stroke replacement for the 125 cc class, was held in Qatar.
The NISSIN young riders showed dynamic runs at this memorable first race. Among them, Sixteen-year-old rider Niccolo Antonelli did battle within the top ten with 6 other riders until the last lap of the race. The plucky young Italian rider fought with experienced riders but regretfully he finished in seventeenth position. Danny Webb(Mahindra Racing/MAHINDRA)finished eighteenth, Kenta Fujii(Technomag-CIP-TSR/TSR HONDA)finished twenty-first on his Grand Prix debut. Marcel Schrotter retired due to a gearshift problem in lap 6.

Alvaro Bautista-San Carlo Honda Gresini-7th

“We have finished a problematic weekend in a good way. I have struggled for front feel in practice and then we had another crash on a cold tyre in warm-up. That was a problem for us because we had gone back to the setting from winter testing but only got chance to try it on the sighting lap and warm-up lap. I made a good start and stayed with the group I was in, fighting for sixth to the end and only just missing out. We were still lacking some front feel and a bit of speed in corner exit, which would have helped out in the fight with Hayden. Anyway, I am happy because it is the first race I have finished since Aragon last year so that's important. I have to thank the whole team for working so hard to give me the bike I'm asking for. I have great confidence in them and I am sure we will improve for the next race.”

Stefan Bradl-LCR Honda-8th

“I am very happy and we are doing a good job as all the week end was very positive for us. My start was perfect but maybe I was a little bit too careful in the first laps but I really could see this is a different category compared to Moto2 and the guys are more clever with the new tyres. I was able to follow the fastest guys, not for the whole race, but I was capable to do my own race quite well. At the end I did a mistake and this cost us half a second and this is the reason way Hayden, Barbera and Bautista caught me. They are also more experienced than me on used tyres at the end of the race  but overall this is an exciting week end for us. I was also expecting to be more exhausted after 22 laps but I am ok”.
